The Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor, linking Mayur Vihar Phase-1 to AIIMS via a 10-km signal-free stretch, is scheduled for inauguration on September 29. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to launch this and three other major road infrastructure projects, collectively worth ₹1,941 crore, to address traffic congestion neglected over decades. The Barapullah corridor was originally approved in 2014, initiated in 2015, and was initially scheduled for completion in 2017, with its revised project cost now approximately ₹1,635 crore.

Additional flyovers and underpass to complement main corridor

Alongside the Barapullah corridor, foundation stones will be laid for two new flyovers, while an underpass will be inaugurated. The projects target key bottlenecks across the city.

Mukarba Chowk UnderpassIncludes two 50m vehicular underpasses and a separate pedestrian/NMV underpass.Inauguration

The Modi Mill to Kalkaji and Savitri Cinema projects have a combined approval of ₹371 crore. The Delhi government has set a completion target of 24 to 30 months for these two projects.

Projects target congestion at key junctions to improve flow and reduce emissions

The infrastructure aims to eliminate gridlock at specific intersections, which officials say will improve traffic speeds and directly impact vehicular pollution. The Savitri Cinema half-flyover is expected to relieve congestion for commuters heading towards Nehru Place and Okhla.

A government official stated that once operational, the flyovers will provide signal-free movement and eliminate congestion at key junctions, particularly at Captain Gaur Marg-Outer Ring Road and Outer Ring Road-GK-II Road. The Mukarba Chowk underpasses are intended to improve connectivity between Badli and Rohini, while its separate pedestrian underpass offers a safer alternative to crossing the busy junction.

The Barapullah corridor connects Mayur Vihar in East Delhi with Sarai Kale Khan, an important transport hub with links to railways, bus terminals, and expressways. It is expected to cut travel time from Noida and East Delhi to AIIMS from 35-40 minutes to about 15 minutes and may take traffic off overloaded routes like NH-24 and the Ring Road.

The Savitri Cinema junction project will include two entry and exit ramps, dedicated bus bays, rebuilt footpaths, a cycle track, and improved drainage and street lighting. The Modi Mill-Kalkaji extension will cover several major roads including Captain Gaur Marg and Lotus Temple Road. Rekha Gupta said, "Only with a double-engine government can Delhi's stalled projects be opened to the public. The Centre and the Delhi government are working together."

The Barapullah Phase-3 corridor, Modi Mill-Kalkaji extension, Savitri Cinema half-flyover, and Mukarba Chowk underpass will be inaugurated or advanced on September 29 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
