The Delhi government has kept the maturity date for recurring deposits under its new Lakshmi Yojana scheme open to revision. According to official documents reported by the Hindustan Times, the Council of Ministers can change the current deadline of July 31, 2029, following a review two years after the scheme's launch.

This review is due in mid-2028. It provides flexibility before the scheme's initial three-year tenure concludes. The scheme's current term ends just months after the next Lok Sabha elections, typically held between March and May.

Scheme Structure and Restrictions

The Women and Child Development Department notification states the scheme was approved for three years starting August 1, 2026. Eligible women aged 21 to 60 will receive ₹2,500 monthly from September 1. The assistance is structured under two distinct options.

Under the first option, ₹1,500 of the monthly aid is deposited into a recurring deposit. The remaining ₹1,000 is transferred via a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet. This digital wallet will have spending restrictions to block the purchase of items on a negative list. That list includes alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, lottery tickets, and gambling services.

The second option deposits the entire ₹2,500 into a recurring deposit. Both deposit types currently mature on July 31, 2029.

Flexibility for Future Changes

An official told the Hindustan Times the revision clause was included because this is the scheme's first implementation. Experiences of beneficiaries may necessitate changes. "If there are any glitches or any issues faced by the women, the council of ministers can review after a period of two years and take a decision," the official said.

The provision also allows the government room to modify the financial assistance structure as the scheme progresses. It simultaneously provides beneficiaries with a clearly defined initial deposit arrangement.

Application and Documentation

Applicants without an Aadhaar card can still register. They must submit an Aadhaar enrolment slip when available, alongside an alternative identity document. Acceptable documents include a PAN card, ration card, voter ID, passport, or driving licence.

For beneficiaries not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, the Women and Child Development Department will facilitate enrolment through its district offices.
